Depressed doctor commits suicide by jumping into Mindhola River
Surat: After suffering from depression for weeks, a 26-year-old young doctor who was working at a Health and Wellness Centre in Dindoli allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Mindhola River near Titva village in Tapi district.
As per a TOI news report, his body was spotted by locals after it surfaced in river water on Tuesday. It was revealed that he left his house on Sunday evening and took the extreme step on the same day. The doctor was under medication for depression for a few weeks.
Although the exact reason is unknown and yet to be determined, the police suspect from its preliminary investigation that the doctor might have ended his life due to complications in his relationship with a woman.

"The exact details are yet to be ascertained, but preliminary information suggests that Gamit was in a relationship with a woman and objection by his family could be a reason behind the extreme step," said an official at Valod police station.
The incident took place after the doctor informed his brother who is preparing for competitive exams in Gandhinagar, to take care of their parents and left his home without informing his parents. Worried about the sudden call, his brother informed his parents about the incident. As a result, his father searched for him towards Bardoli but could not find him.
Police told TOI, "In the evening, his brother received a message from him that his car was parked near Bajipura bypass. He is suspected to have jumped into the river after sending the message. His body surfaced on Tuesday morning," said police.
After his body was recovered, the police found his ID card of GMERS Medical College in Himmatnagar from his pocket and identified his identity from the card. Following this, they informed the parents about the incident.
The Health and Wellness Centre in Dindoli where the doctor was working is under Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) officer. An officer from the corporation said, "He was self-medicating and taking anti-depressant medicines for the past few weeks. The reason behind his condition is not clear."
