Speaking to Assam Tribune, a neighbour described the aftermath as chaotic and deeply disturbing. “We were asleep and unaware of what had happened. Suddenly, the victim came running to our house asking for help. He said they had been attacked and that his wife was gravely hurt. When we reached the house, there was blood everywhere, and the room was completely ransacked. She was barely breathing. He pleaded to be taken to the hospital and said he would explain everything once he recovers. We were told around six to seven attackers were involved,” the neighbour said.
The injured couple was immediately shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for advanced medical treatment. Their condition is reported to be serious, according to India Today NE.
Local residents have expressed alarm over the incident, citing concerns about law and order in the area. They pointed out that the house is located near a main road and described the attack as deeply unsettling. Some residents also noted that this was reportedly the second burglary at the same residence within a month.
Following the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das visited the crime scene to assess the situation. A team from Nagaon Police, along with forensic experts, has initiated a detailed investigation.
Police have begun collecting evidence from the site and are working to identify and arrest those involved in the attack. Further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
