Dr Ahanthem Santa Singh takes charge as Executive Director of AIIMS Mangalagiri
Mangalgiri: Dr Ahanthem Santa Singh, the former Director of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has been appointed as the new Executive Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mangalagiri.
The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) confirmed the appointment, making him the first professional from Manipur to hold this prestigious position. Dr. Santa Singh, currently serving as Dean (Academics), brings over 30 years of experience in medical education, administration, and public health management to his new role, reports Imphal Times.
A distinguished alumnus of JIPMER, Pondicherry, Dr Santa Singh earned his MBBS in 1985, followed by an MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1990. He later achieved a DNB in 1991 and received a Fellowship from the Indian Academy of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. His career spans over two decades of leadership roles, including his tenure as Director of RIMS, Imphal (2017-2022), where he elevated the institute into the top 50 medical institutions in India as per NIRF rankings for four consecutive years.

Dr. Santa Singh has also held pivotal roles at NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, serving as Director (2011-2012) and Dean and Principal (2010-2018). During his tenure, he introduced innovative teaching practices and enhanced both hospital and academic operations.
His contributions extend to national platforms, where he has served as a Governing Body Member at JIPMER and a Think Tank Member for the National Health System Resource Center under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Recognized for his excellence, Dr Santa Singh was honoured as one of the 20 Best Teachers in Obstetrics and Gynaecology by FOGSI in 2021 and has received multiple awards, including the Leadership Summit Excellence Award and Most Valuable Resource Person (MVRP) recognition by IIM Shillong, reports the Daily.
In 2018, AIIMS Mangalagiri started functioning at a newly constructed, though temporary, campus at Government Siddhartha Medical College in Vijayawada. In March 2019, the OPD services were launched at the permanent campus in Mangalagiri, Guntur. Following this, AIIMS gradually moved into its designated campus as newly constructed.
