FIR Against Doctor, 17 Others Over Highway Blockade in Tripura
Tripura Police Register Case Against 18 for Disrupting NH 8 Traffic
Agartala: A case has been registered against a doctor and 17 others in connection with a road blockade that disrupted traffic on National Highway 8 in the 82 Mile area of Tripura's Dhalai district.
According to a government press the blockade began around 9:50 a.m. on May 21, 2025, near the 82-mile Bazar Kalabari Tri-Junction under the jurisdiction of the Manpur Police Station in Dholpur district. Residents, including men and women, reportedly obstructed the highway to oppose the transfer of Dr. Akash Bhowmik, a physician serving at the 28-mile Primary Health Centre (PHC).
Police were later able to remove the blockade and restore traffic. However, the incident has now escalated into a legal matter, with authorities registering a complaint against 18 individuals, including the doctor himself, for allegedly inciting or participating in the obstruction.
This protest not only caused traffic congestion but also posed a risk to public safety and emergency services.
