Rajkot: In a disturbing incident, two separate cases of alleged harassment, intimidation, and disruption of hospital functioning have been reported from Gujarat’s Jamnagar and Gondal towns, where resident medical officers (RMOs) at government hospitals accused individuals of threatening staff and interfering with hospital duties.

According to the news reports, in Jamnagar, a 59-year-old resident medical officer (RMO) at Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, lodged a complaint at the B Division police station against an individual under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 221 and 351(2).

The incident reportedly occurred on May 16 at around 10.30 am when the accused allegedly entered the doctor’s office repeatedly during an important meeting related to patient services. The accused allegedly engaged in a heated argument, used derogatory language, and recorded videos on his mobile phone, disrupting hospital proceedings.

The doctor further alleged that the accused had been visiting the hospital frequently with complaints and harassing him through repeated late-night phone calls. He also claimed that the accused attempted to pressure him by filing RTI applications and complaints through the 104 Health Helpline.

According to the complaint, the accused also allegedly threatened to implicate the doctor in atrocity-related cases and made remarks damaging to his professional reputation. Several hospital staff members, doctors, and security personnel were reportedly present during the incident.

The doctor, who has served in the Gujarat Health Service for 33 years, informed the police that he feared for his safety and sought protection. Police said an investigation into the matter is underway.

In another incident, a 28-year-old resident medical officer at Gondal government hospital in Rajkot district filed a complaint at Gondal City A Division police station against two individuals.

The FIR was registered under BNS Sections 221, 352, 351(3), and 54. According to the FIR, the accused had allegedly been visiting the hospital unnecessarily over the past year, misbehaving with staff, issuing threats, and recording videos to harass medical personnel.

The doctor alleged that the duo frequently entered the hospital claiming to conduct inspections and verbally abused doctors and staff members, reports TOI.

The complaint further alleged that the accused threatened to defame hospital staff on social media and obstructed hospital functioning by issuing death threats to medical personnel.

Police have initiated further investigations in both cases.
