Death of 60-year-old patient triggers tension at NMCH
Patna: A 60-year-old woman's death, allegedly due to medical negligence, sparked tension at Nalanda Medical College Hospital on Monday. The situation intensified after the woman's family accused the doctors of being responsible for her death.
The woman, a resident of Patna City, had been admitted to the hospital two days earlier with a leg injury and was scheduled to undergo surgery. However, she passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, sparking an altercation between her family and the hospital staff.
According to the news reports, the situation escalated when the deceased’s son approached the hospital staff to request a death certificate. He claimed that hospital staff attempted to issue a death certificate on plain paper rather than on official letterhead.

Upon receiving the information, the Alamganj police quickly arrived at the scene. They assured the family that an investigation would be carried out to determine the facts of the case. Meanwhile, the hospital administration intervened, and the matter was defused when a proper, official death certificate was issued to the family.
Dr. Rashmi Prasad, superintendent of Nalanda Medical College Hospital (NMCH), clarified that the death certificate had been reissued in the proper format. She stated that the family left the hospital quietly and without further incident after receiving the official documentation.
