Jharkhand cancels blood centre licence over regulatory violations
Bokaro: The Jharkhand State Drug Control Directorate has cancelled the licence of the blood centre operated by City Care Hospital and Research Centre in Chas with immediate effect after repeated inspections reportedly found violations of regulatory norms.
According to the Civil Surgeon, the Directorate issued the cancellation order after authorities found that the blood centre had failed to address irregularities despite being given opportunities to explain and rectify the deficiencies.
Officials said a joint inspection carried out on October 31, 2025, by the Drug Inspector and a medical officer identified several lapses in the functioning of the blood centre. Following the inspection, the hospital management was asked to submit an explanation.
Based on the findings, the blood centre's operations, including blood collection, storage, testing and distribution, were suspended from December 2, 2025, pending further orders.
The cancellation of the licence means the blood centre can no longer undertake activities such as blood collection, storage, testing or distribution unless permitted by the competent authority in accordance with applicable regulations. The action follows a series of inspections and regulatory proceedings initiated by the State Drug Control Directorate to assess compliance with standards governing the operation of licensed blood centres.
According to The Times of India, following the findings, the centre was asked to submit an explanation. Its operations, including blood collection, storage, testing and distribution, were suspended from Dec 2, 2025, until further orders, the civil surgeon said.
After reviewing the response submitted by the hospital, the department conducted another joint inspection on March 9, 2026. Authorities stated that the inspection again revealed irregularities at the facility. The management was subsequently asked to provide another explanation.
According to officials, the reply submitted by the blood centre was found unsatisfactory, following which the Directorate decided to revoke the licence with immediate effect.
