The approval comes after a proposal submitted by Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, who is also the Mandya MP. The hospital is set to be built under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), at an estimated cost of Rs. 311 crore.
Kumaraswamy has requested the state government to allot 10 acres of land adjacent to the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway, with the hospital planned to be located between Mandya and Maddur.

In addition, the State Health and Family Welfare Department has written to the Union Minister to explore the possibility of building a hi-tech hospital at the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) premises. Allocation of the 10-acre land would support future expansion and upgrading of MIMS, benefiting patients from Mandya as well as neighbouring Tumakuru and Ramanagar districts. The AIIMS-like super speciality hospital, if it becomes a reality, assures a slew of health facilities round-the-clock like AIIMS, which includes 24×7 emergency, trauma centre, and treatment for cancer, cardiac and other health-related issues, reports the Star of Mysore
