Bokaro: Tension gripped Medicent Super Speciality Cancer Hospital in Jharkhand's Bokaro following the death of a 43-year-old woman after undergoing surgery. The family has alleged medical negligence, prompting the police to launch an inquiry into the incident.

The deceased, identified as Sushma Devi, a resident of Rana Pratap Nagar in Chas, was admitted to Bokaro General Hospital on September 29 after complaining of bowel and urinary difficulties. However, due to the unavailability of a specialist doctor, her family was advised to seek treatment at another facility.

She was later admitted to Medicent Hospital on October 2 and underwent surgery on October 4. According to her husband, Sanjeev Kumar Singh, stated that post-surgery, the doctor assured them that the operation was successful and that she would be shifted to the OPD later that evening.

Following her death, the agitated family members staged a protest at the hospital. Sector-12 police reached the site with reinforcement and managed to control the situation.

The family also submitted a written complaint at the police station. City DSP Alok Ranjan visited Medicent Hospital to address the issue. After discussions with the agitated family members, an agreement was reached to conduct a post-mortem, news agency UNI reported.

The DSP stated that the post-mortem report would be submitted within 14 days, after which appropriate action would be taken against the responsible parties.

Dr. Majid Talikoti, CEO of Medicent Super Speciality Cancer Hospital, said, " The patient had previously undergone a cesarean operation, which led to complications causing obstruction in bowel and urinary functions. Following the recent surgery, she developed complications, ultimately resulting in heart failure and her death. "

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that following the death of a 23-year-old pregnant woman at Nalbari Medical College and Hospital, a widespread protest erupted amid serious allegations of medical negligence against the hospital staff.
