Odisha Pediatrician Shot while attending to patient, critical

Odisha: In a shocking incident, a local pediatrician was shot at by an unidentified miscreants, later attacking the druggist attached to the clinic when he tried to intervene. While the doctor is still fighting for his life, the druggist- a medicine shot owner has unfortunately succumbed to his injuries

The incident took place yesterday in Khurda district of Odisha where two offenders fired on a Pediatrician, Dr Manas Ranjan Das and a medicine shop owner -Krushna Chandra Sahoo inside a health clinic.

The doctor was examining the pediatric patient when the incident happened on Sunday evening. According to the recent media reports, two masked men entered the clinic with the weapon in hand and fired two bullets at the doctor. When the medicine shop owner arrived at the site after hearing the screams and noise of the people, accused shot him too. There were around 15 patients that were present in the clinic at the time of the incident.

One of the patients told TOI that they were shivering with fear and could not help as the accused were armed. They saw them escaping on the bike.

The victims were immediately admitted to the district hospital where their condition worsened. They were later transferred to a private hospital in Bhubaneshwar. The doctors managed to remove all the bullets from the two, but the druggist unfortunately could not be saved as he succumbed to internal bleeding. The doctor still remaims critical

The police are still trying to find the culprits, and are attempting to ascertain the cause of the attack.

"A case has been registered against the accused. We have found a CCTV footage in which the face of one accused is clear and we are trying to catch him. All the entry points to the district has been sealed," Swain told Odisha TV.

"We are trying to find if the doctor or the shop owner had any quarrel with any of their previous attendants," Swain said to TOI.

Following the incident, both the local chemist association as well as doctors association are up in arms demanding the immediate arrest of culprits
