Nellore: In a major respite, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has recently granted recognition to the 150 MBBS students of AC Subba Reddy Government Medical College, Nellore. The students and the medical college authorities were reportedly waiting for the MCI nod for over 5 years.

According to a recent report by Hans India, the medical college was facing issues with recognition. It has been reported that MCI sanctioned 150 seats to the Medical College in 2013 and medical council authorities had not accorded the approval of the said number of seats.

The Government Medical College was started in 2014-15 and had to get recognition.

The confirmation of the MCI nod comes from a recent social media post by the Collector K V N Chakradhar Babu, who tweeted on Monday, "With all our efforts, ACSR Medical College got the recognition of MCI. I wish the junior doctors and house surgeons all the very best for their future career prospects."

In fact, majority students are nearing completion of the course, adds the local daily.

Furthermore, the Junior Doctors Association in Andhra Pradesh state (AndhraJUDA) has also congratulated the medical college authorities and the new doctors. It tweeted:
