The SSG Hospital is one of the two biggest COVID facilities of Vadodara and it is treating patients from various districts of Central Gujarat. A number of negligence complaints had come across during the last month from the hospital.

According to a recent report by The Indian Express, previously Vadodara officer on Special Duty for COVID-19, Vinod Rao issued a show-cause notice to Dr Rajeev Daveshwar, medical superintendent of SSG hospital and instructed him to submit a reply within 7 days on why action should not be initiated against him on under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 for supervisory lapses.
The notice came after a factual report submitted by the COVID-19 fact-finding committee for SSG hospital concluded "dereliction of duties and serious supervisory lapses on the part of Medical Superintendent".
Rao previously assigned Ashok Patel, CEO of Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA), as the administrator of SSG COVID hospital and made Dr. Minoo Patel an advisor last week. After receiving reports that the hospital failed to provide oxygen cylinders in time to patients, leading to some deaths. While the fact-finding committee eliminated lapses in that particular complaint, the administrator and advisor made a visit to the hospital and arranged meetings with all departments of the hospital to examine the chances of supervisory lapses.
TOI reports that they found several lapses on part of the hospital and found that a number of items and equipment showed a difference in numbers than claimed by the hospital. The factual report had given details of such dereliction of duty on part of the medical superintendent following which show-cause notice was served to Mr. Daveshwar.
TIE adds that now a transfer order has been issued and Dr Rajan Iyer, a renowned ENT surgeon and head of the ENT department at SSG hospital will be appointed as the new medical superintendent of the institution, while the former Superintendant Dr Daveshwar has been transferred to Himmatnagar medical college.
