36 hours before NEET 2026, bulldozer razes aspirant's home, MBBS dream in ruins

The NEET aspirant has been identified as a 17-year-old who was preparing for the NEET UG 2026 examination, which was scheduled to be held on Sunday.

She watched helplessly as the incident unfolded, seeing her study materials, anatomy diagrams, pharmacology notes, and mock test papers, buried beneath the rubble of 27 demolished houses. This event shattered her dreams of becoming a doctor.

With just 36 hours remaining until the exam, she found herself in a temple situated on the banks of a lake, a makeshift shelter, holding nothing but her NEET 2026 admit card in her hand.

While speaking to the TOI, in this regard, she said “We were asked to vacate the house around 10 pm on Friday. “We slept on the streets. It wasn’t until the afternoon, after pleading with the administration, that I managed to retrieve my NEET admit card”.

“Even if I reach the exam centre on Sunday, NEET’s strict protocols pose hurdles. The only clothes that I am left with here do not meet the dress code, and my identity documents are buried under the rubble”, she noted.

According to NTA guidelines, wearing light-colored, full-sleeved clothing without patterns or embroidery is mandatory, and candidates must carry their original identity cards.

Meanwhile, later that same day, as tensions escalated and some people were arrested, she, along with her sisters and her little nephew, took refuge in a temple situated on the banks of the Upper Lake

Her family claimed that the demolition drive left residents homeless without any prior notice, an allegation that the administration denied. However, the action was taken following the court’s order.
