4,923 Fresh MBBS Graduates to Join Covid-19 duty as Interns after MUHS declares final year Results

The theory exams were scheduled from March 8 to March 24. The practical examinations, on the other hand, commenced on March 30 and continued till April 25. Clearly, the declaration of results within a day of the completion of the examination process has been made possible considering the need for frontline health workers in government and private medical colleges and hospitals.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, the controller of MUHS Examinations, Ajit Pathak said, "We have declared the results of final-year winter 2020 course, both MBBS, and nursing, on the official website of the MUHS. These exams were held in the month of March-April 2021, as per the guidelines of central board and state government. We are happy with the results and soon all these students will work for Covid patients for the next one year."

"We organized a four-day online training program for these students with best experts from the field of health sciences. The subject was obviously Covid-19 and how students have to work in future as doctors and nurses" added Dr Pathak.

Mentioning that the decision to declare the results as soon as possible was taken to deal with the shortage of doctors and healthcare workers amidst the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Pathak told the Times of India, "Under the rules, the results have to be declared within 45 days of the completion of the exam. But we could declare the results within a day as we had planned in advance to declare the results fast due to the Covid situation in the state."

He further informed the TOI that the assessment of the answer scripts began in 32 medical colleges immediately after the exams commenced on March 8. He also mentioned that the Acting vice-chancellor Nitin Karmalkar, varsity registrar Kalidas Chavan and the varsity's Board of Examinations acted as the guides for this early declaration of results.

"The evaluators, who treat patients at the MCHs, took out time from their busy schedule and checked the answer scripts," added Pathak.

Applauding the early declaration of results and adding that some medical colleges and hospitals are suffering from lack of interns to treat Covid-19 patients, N S Arvikar, the dean of Dr. Ulhas Patil Medical College and Hospital in Jalgaon told the daily, "It's a boon for all these institutes."
