Tamil Nadu: This weekend, the two-day 'All India Russian Education Fair 2026-27' is all set to be held in Tamil Nadu. This fair will help students obtain information about medical colleges in Russia.

A total of eight institutions will participate in this program, which covers admissions to MBBS and other courses. A total of 10,000 MBBS seats are being offered for the aspirants.

More than 200 students may be eligible for a 100% scholarship. The qualifying examinations such as CET and IELTS are not required for admission to Russian universities.

Indian students who have qualified in the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) with a minimum of 50% marks in the relevant core subjects/degrees (40% in the case of SC/ST and OBC students) are eligible to apply for the MBBS course. Students from the Tamil medium of instruction are also eligible to apply.

According to the TOI media news report, the universities participating in the education fair include Volgograd State Medical University, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow), Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University (Kaliningrad), Kazan State Medical University, North Caucasus Federal University (Stavropol), Moscow Aviation Institute, and Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University.

A press conference was held on Wednesday, during which Valery Khozaev, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chennai, stated that Indian students have been studying at Russian universities for the past 60 years. Russia continues to remain the first choice for Indian students aspiring to pursue medical education abroad.

Additionally, Ravi Chandran, Managing Director of 'Study Abroad Educational Consultants,' stated that the total annual fees could be as low as ₹3.5 lakh. Across approximately 600 government universities located throughout Russia, over 300,000 international students from 200 different countries are currently enrolled. The majority of these students hail from India. The objective is to increase this figure to 500,000 by 2030.

This fair will also be held at other locations in Tamil Nadu—on May 12 at Hotel Royal Court in Madurai, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM; on May 13 at Hotel Femina in Trichy; on May 14 at GRT Hotel Zibe in Salem; and on May 15 at The Grand Regent Hotel in Coimbatore. Entry is free.
