Hyderabad: A PG Medical Student of Gandhi Medical College allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself to a ceiling fan at her apartment in Prakash Nagar, Begumpet. As claimed by the Dean of the institution, the junior doctor was under depression due to personal reasons.

The 35-year-old medico has been identified as a first-year student of bio-medicine at Gandhi Medical College. A native of Narsampet, Warangal District, she completed her MBBS from a private university in Russia. She practiced at a private hospital in Warangal prior to joining the PG course.

The deceased doctor was sharing a rented flat with two other girls for the last couple of months. However, they vacated when one of them tested Covid-19 positive.

Thereafter, on December 4, the medico's nephew, who found the doctor hanging on reaching her flat, reported about the unfortunate incident to the police.

As per various media accounts, for the past six months, the PG medico was not in contact with her family (except her sister) due to differences with them over a marriage alliance that had been brought. She was reportedly forced by her parents to get married.

As per Begumpet ACP Naresh Reddy, the PG medical student resorted to the extreme step as she was under depression for personal reasons and was also upset as she was not getting a match of her liking, reports Deccan Chronicle.

On December 2 at 4 am, she sent a Google location to her nephew, who lived in Hyderabad as well.

"He was surprised by her sudden message and went to her college, where the dean told him that his aunt was suffering from depression and did not attend college for the past two days," Reddy told The Hindu.

A couple of days later, by tracking the location he reached the spot where the petrified body of a PG medical student was found hanging and a note was fixed on the walls saying 'no one is responsible for my death'.

"Despite repeated knocks, as there was no response, he broke open the door only to find his aunt in a shocking state and alerted the police, his mother and other relatives," Reddy added.

The body was handed over to the family on Saturday after post-mortem at Osmania Hospital. Meanwhile, based on the complaint lodged by the doctor's nephew, a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) of Cr.PC was registered by the Begumpet police and a probe is on.
