Hyderabad: The President of Telangana unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Bandi Sanjay has recently written to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to approve the establishment of a medical college in Jogulamba Gadwal district in the state.
In a letter to Mandaviya, he said that the land acquisition process for setting up the medical college has already been completed and further urged the Minister to establish a 300-bed hospital along with the medical college.
On Thursday, Sanjay along with the Telangana unit of the BJP, led by national OBC Morcha president K. Laxman, and others expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing a quota for the BCs and economically weaker sections in dental and medical undergraduate aspirants from this year onwards.
Laxman informed that in the OBC Morcha national executive meeting, the members discussed a 27% quota for the BCs and 10% for the poor, reports The Hindu. Later, they raised the proposal before the Prime Minister by Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav and the proposal was immediately considered by the authorities and action was also taken accordingly.
The move will ensure almost 4,000 seats in MBBS, MD, BDS and MDS for students from the BCs and 1,500 seats for the students who belong to the poorer sections of sociaty, he added. Sanjay Kumar said the decision would pave the way for providing higher education to the socially and economically backward sections and thus would help them to secure better employment opportunities ahead.
