Hyderabad: In response to the senior resident doctors of Telangana Institute Medical Sciences (TIMS) who started boycotting services demanding one-week quarantine leaves, the TIMS Director has issued a press release stating that the earlier-mandatory quarantine period is not advised anymore by the government.

The TIMS officials referred to the latest advisory by the government dated June 18, 2020, in which the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) clearly stated that quarantine is not warranted for any healthcare worker except those in high-risk exposure.

As per the press release, during the lockdown period, quarantine leaves were the norm which has now been removed by the government. It continued to support their argument against quarantine leaves by stating that TIMS is taking all precautions to prevent infection among health care workers. The precautions include all necessary provisions of PPE kits, N-95 masks, surgical gloves and sanitizer to all the staff involved in Covid-19 care.
Along with this, TIMS reportedly also has a Hospital Infection Control Committee (HICC) which is charged with the implementation of the Infection Prevention Protocol (IPC) measure in the hospital.

It was also clarified in the press release that the salaries till October 2020 have been paid to all the contractual staff which includes faculty doctors, medical officers, staff nurses, and paramedical staff along with the Senior Residents who have also received their stipend on time.

Though it is stated that the healthcare staff in government hospitals were given their quarantine leaves in between their COVID-19 duties in order to reduce the spread of infection but it has been scrapped following the government's advisory.
According to a TNIE report, the Director of Medical Education stated, while speaking to the media, that the quarantine leaves have been canceled and action will be taken against anyone who does not follow the set norm, and protests against the same.
