Bogus surrogacy racket busted, BAMS doctor arrested
Nagpur: The crime branch team has recently busted a fake surrogacy racket operating from Hudkeshwar and arrested Vilas Bhoyar, a BAMS doctor along with two others for allegedly selling a baby to a childless couple from Hyderabad.
After the crime branch received a tip-off about the incident, they started digging into the matter. The doctor and the broker were arrested by a team led by DCP Chinmay Pandit on Tuesday. The police arrested the third person named Naresh Rao aged 48 at around 1 pm on Wednesday. He is a resident of Mudaliar Layout, Shanti Nagar.

The accused is a Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree holder. As per Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar's statement to TOI that the accused persuaded an unmarried pregnant woman to not go for an abortion instead give the child to a childless couple.
The broker named Rahul aka Moreshwar Nimje is a resident of Wathoda Layout. According to the CP, he allegedly lured the couple from Hyderabad to visit Nagpur for surrogacy. "When the couple came to Nagpur, Bhoyar collected semen and blood samples of the Hyderabad man," he added.

"The unmarried woman delivered a baby girl on January 28 this year and on February 7, the couple was handed over the child. Though the girl was not born out of surrogacy, the doctor and the broker allegedly took Rs7 lakh from them for the same," the CP said.
A case has been filed against the trio and there is an investigation underway to determine whether the accused have duped more couples in a similar manner. In addition, CP urged anyone with knowledge of the racket to come forward.
