Centre allocates Rs 185.75 crore for AYUSH expansion in Andhra Pradesh

The Centre has approved Rs 185.75 crore under the National AYUSH Mission for Andhra Pradesh for 2026-27, the State's highest NAM allocation since 2014, to strengthen AYUSH dispensaries, mobile medical units, education, wellness centres and specialised healthcare services.
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh is set to receive a major boost to its traditional healthcare infrastructure, with the Centre approving Rs 185.75 crore under the National AYUSH Mission (NAM) for 2026-27.
The allocation, described as the State’s highest under NAM since its launch in 2014, will support the expansion of AYUSH healthcare, education, wellness and infrastructure services across the State.
The decision was announced by the Department of Health, Medical and Family Welfare. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav welcomed the Centre’s approval and highlighted the significance of the funding for strengthening AYUSH services in Andhra Pradesh.

A key component of the plan is the introduction of 19 Mobile Medical Units across nine Integrated Tribal Development Agencies (ITDAs). With an allocation of Rs 1.26 crore, the units will provide AYUSH-based healthcare to tribal and remote populations in areas including Rampachodavaram, Chinturu, Parvathipuram and Paderu. Each unit will have AYUSH Medical Officers and multipurpose health workers, reports The Hindu.
The State has also planned technological upgrades for AYUSH facilities. Around Rs 50 lakh has been earmarked for digitising dispensaries and providing internet connectivity, while Rs 62.8 lakh will be used to supply laptops to 157 AYUSH Medical Officers.
Under the approved plan, Rs 12.80 crore will be spent on upgrading 64 AYUSH dispensaries, while Rs 22.16 crore has been allocated for free medicines at 712 dispensaries. Additional provisions cover Panchakarma, yoga, herbal therapy, de-addiction services and an AYUSH clinic at the High Court.
The expansion also includes four alcohol de-addiction centres at government AYUSH teaching hospitals and yoga wellness centres at the State Secretariat and four major prisons. An AYUSH Sports Medicine Centre of Excellence is proposed in Kadapa to support athletes recovering from injuries through traditional therapies.
AYUSH education and infrastructure have been allocated Rs 38.84 crore, including support for a Government College of Naturopathy and Yoga with a 100-bed hospital at the Visakhapatnam Institute of Medical Sciences. Another Rs 5.28 crore has been sanctioned for 58 speciality wellness centres.
The State has received no NAM allocation for three consecutive financial years between 2021 and 2024. The latest approval is therefore expected to provide renewed financial support for strengthening AYUSH services across the state.
