Nagaland Governor reviews AYUSH Hospital, calls for strengthening traditional healthcare

Kohima: The 50-bed Integrated AYUSH Hospital near Kohima, Nagaland, was reviewed by Governor Shri Nand Kishore Yadav, who emphasised the need to further strengthen healthcare delivery through traditional systems of medicine.
During his visit, the Governor also reviewed the implementation of tribal welfare programmes and other development initiatives in the state.
The Integrated AYUSH Hospital, located around 24 kilometres from Kohima on the Phek-Meluri-Zunheboto Road, was inaugurated on March 4, 2022. It is the third Integrated AYUSH Hospital established in the country and was developed to promote holistic and integrative healthcare services, reports India Today NE.
Hospital authorities informed the Governor that the facility provides services in Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, and Homoeopathy. The hospital currently has a workforce of 43 staff members and caters to eight nearby villages.
Since becoming operational, the hospital has recorded more than 10,050 outpatient consultations and provided inpatient care to 560 patients up to June 2026. The facility also played a significant role during the COVID-19 pandemic, serving as Nagaland’s first designated COVID-19 hospital.
Governor Yadav highlighted the importance of AYUSH systems in supporting preventive healthcare, wellness and healthy living. He stated that integrated healthcare institutions have an important role in ensuring affordable, accessible and patient-focused medical services for communities.

Following the hospital review, the Governor chaired a meeting of the Tribal Affairs Department at Raj Bhavan to evaluate the progress of welfare schemes and infrastructure projects for tribal communities.
Officials presented updates on initiatives including schemes under Article 275(1), Development Action–Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (DA-JGUA), Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAAGY), and community infrastructure projects.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that preparations are underway to establish an All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) near the proposed Satellite AIIMS in Kichha, Udham Singh Nagar. The AYUSH Department has initiated the proposed site evaluation, focusing on connectivity, utilities and essential infrastructure requirements for the upcoming institute.
