145 seats available for MBBS admissions at AFMC Pune, check out eligibility criteria
Pune: Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC Pune) has released the information brochure for admission to MBBS courses for 2023-2024.
Course duration –
The duration of the MBBS course is 4 ½ years, followed by compulsory rotating internship training of one year. All medical cadets commissioned into the AFMS will undergo internship training in selected service hospitals recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Eligibility criteria –
The candidate should be a citizen of India. Foreign nationals of Indian origin may be admitted into AFMC only after they have acquired Indian Citizenship or in respect of whom the Ministry of Home Affairs issues a certificate of eligibility. This, however, does not apply to the 05 Govt Sponsored Candidates from Friendly Foreign Countries.
Must be unmarried. Marriage during the course is not permitted.
Should be medically fit as per prescribed standards by the Govt of India, Ministry of Defence (see Appendix ‘A’).
Age criteria: The candidate should have attained the age of 17 years on 31 Jan 2023 but must not have attained the age of 24 years on that date i.e. must have been born not earlier than 01 January 2000 and not later than 31 December 2006.
Candidates from the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are also eligible for admission to AFMC Pune.
Academic qualifications -
Candidates must have passed one of the qualifying examinations listed at sub-para (a) to (j) below in the first attempt with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology taken simultaneously and securing not less than 60% of the aggregate marks in these three science subjects taken together and not less than 50% marks in English and 50% marks in each of the science subjects. They must have also passed an examination in Mathematics of the tenth standard. The examinations are:-
1. The Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent examination in Science of a statutory Indian University/Board or other recognized examination body with English, Physics, Chemistry & Biology, which shall include practical tests in all of these science subjects.
2. The Pre-professional/Pre-Medical examination with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (after passing either the Higher Secondary School examination or pre-University or equivalent examination) which shall include practical tests in these science subjects.
3. 1st year of three years of Degree courses at a recognized University with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, including practical tests in Science subjects provided the examination is a University Examination.
4. Senior Secondary of a statutory Examination Board of Indian School Certificate examination of 12 years of study, last two years of study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a higher level.
5. Higher Secondary School Certificate examination of Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary Education with English at a Higher level, any one of the Modern Indian or Modern Foreign or Classical Languages, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, or any other elective subject.
6. Any other examination which in scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the Higher Secondary Science/Pre-Professional/Pre-medical Examination of Indian University/ Board with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology including practical test in each of these Science subjects.
7. B.Sc. Examination of a recognized Indian University provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc. Examination in not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology, and further that he/she has passed the qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English.
The following categories of candidates are not eligible to apply -
1. Candidates who have passed Domestic Science, Domestic Arithmetic, and Lower Math separately or in combination with other subjects like General Science / Social studies in High School / Higher Secondary (Multipurpose) or equivalent examination.
2. Candidates who have passed only Pre-University / Pre-Degree (one-year course) or Pre- Professional in Agriculture / Veterinary / Dental Examination.
3. Candidates who have passed the Pre-professional or equivalent qualifying examination as a Private candidate or from Open schools.
4. Candidates who have secured the requisite percentage but in subsequent attempts or compartment examination.
Number of Seats –
A total of 145 medical cadets (115 boys & 30 girls) will be admitted for the year 2023. In addition to the above 145 seats, Govt. of India, at its discretion through the Ministry of External Affairs & Ministry of Defence, may sponsor and select five (05) NEET(UG) qualified foreign students from friendly foreign countries for MBBS training in AFMC, under their aid/collaboration programs. Up to 10 seats out of 145 are offered to candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST).
Candidates seeking admission for the MBBS course at AFMC Pune will have to mandatorily qualify for the NEET UG 2023 Examination conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA).
Eligible candidates who are interested to join AFMC Pune to pursue the MBBS course will have to mandatorily register and apply for AFMC, Pune on the DGHS website: www.mcc.nic.in during the registration window provided by the DGHS. Candidates are advised to visit the above website for details.
After the last date of registration, a list of candidates who have applied for AFMC, Pune, will be provided by DGHS. The NEET Roll No. of the candidates who are shortlisted for the screening at AFMC, Pune, based on merit, will be displayed on the website. Approximately 1880 candidates (1490 boys and 390 girls) will be called for the screening. The exact schedule of the screening at AFMC, Pune, along with the details of the shortlisted candidates, will be available on the website: www.afmcdg1d.gov.in and www.afmc.nic.in Request for change of date of interview will NOT be entertained except under extreme circumstances.
The shortlisted candidates will be called for the Test of English Language, Comprehension, Logic and Reasoning (ToELR), Psychological Assessment Test (PAT), Interview, and Medical Examination at AFMC, Pune.
Test of English Language Comprehension, Logic, and Reasoning (ToELR) will be in the form of a Computer Based Test (CBT) consisting of 40 MCQs of 2.0 marks each amounting to a maximum of 80 marks and will be held at AFMC, Pune. There will be negative marks of 0.5 for every incorrect answer. These 40 questions will be required to be answered in 30 minutes.
An interview of 50 marks will follow this. In addition to the core subjects, the candidates will be interviewed on general awareness and knowledge, interests, hobbies, and personality by a panel of judges. Due weightage will be given to candidates for participation in NCC/Sports at various levels and for wards of Officers/JCOs/ORs who are serving/ESM/Killed in action. The final merit will be based on the final score thus obtained (Written examination score + Interview marks). The psychological Assessment Test (PAT) is a qualifying examination, and the PAT score will not be considered for preparing the final merit list.
The final result of the selected Merit List and Wait-list candidates will be available on the DGAFMS official website: www.afmcdg1d.gov.in.
The candidates will be required to produce originals of all certificates/mark sheets, NEET UG - 2023 admit card (hall ticket), NEET UG-2023 score card and original certificate of NCC, Sports certificate at school, District, State & National /International level, if any, at the time of the screening at AFMC Pune. All candidates will produce results or proof of having appeared in the qualifying examination at the time of screening (if the result of such examination has not been declared). Original mark sheet & pass certificate of qualifying examination, however, will have to be produced prior to admission.
On the basis of the NEET UG – 2023 score and screening at AFMC, two merit lists, one for boys and one for girls, will be drawn up, and admissions will be offered only to these shortlisted candidates in accordance with their final merit position. The remaining candidates will be on the waiting list. The result will be displayed on the websites stated above and at the O/o DGAFMS and Admission Cell, AFMC Pune.
Candidates admitted to AFMC for the MBBS course have a compulsory liability to serve as Commissioned Officers in the Armed Forces Medical Services. The offer of the type of commission will depend upon the vacancies available and shall be determined on merit-cum-option at the final MBBS examination. The liability of the SSC officers passing out of AFMC to serve in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) would be 7 (seven) years. The Permanent Commission (PC) Officers will have to serve in AFMS till the date of superannuation. Complete details of the Service Liability & Bond Agreement will be given to the candidates shortlisted for the screening.
At the time of admission, parents/guardians of the candidates are required to sign a bond agreement for Rs 6500,000. Any candidate withdrawing from the college after 7 days of admission [after 1600hrs (4 PM)] will have to pay Bond Money as per existing rules.
For the SC/ST category candidates, upto 10 seats out of 145 will be offered subject to fulfilling the following criteria -
1. The SC/ST candidates must have applied for AFMC, Pune, and also qualified in the NEET UG – 2023 written examination.
2. If shortlisted and called for screening at AFMC, they must come in the final combined merit list of boys and girls.
3. They must fulfill all other conditions/standards, as applicable to non-SC / ST candidates, like age eligibility, academic qualifications, medical fitness, etc.
4. These seats will be in addition to any vacancies secured by SC / ST candidates on the basis of their position in the main merit list (excluding the waiting list).
5. In case of any SC / ST girl/boy admitted against these vacancies, the number of girls/boys to be admitted against the general seats will be reduced correspondingly.
6. All such candidates will have to sign a surety bond on the same lines and the same conditions as Non-SC / ST candidates.
Document Scrutiny –
1. The candidates called for admission will have to produce the original Admit card for NEET UG – 2023 containing the NEET Roll number, original mark sheets of their qualifying examination, and other documents, details of which will be given in the joining instructions.
2. If their results and mark sheets are not received by the date of reporting for admission to AFMC, their candidature will be canceled and no representation in this respect will be entertained.
3. No candidate will be admitted provisionally awaiting the result of the qualifying examination.
4. If at any point of time in the process of interview, admission, or MBBS course, the documents of the candidate are found to be false/not authentic, or any other discrepancy is observed, the candidature/selection/admission of the candidate will be canceled forthwith.
AFMC has further notified that a list of waiting list candidates will be released along with the merit list only. The waitlisted candidates will be called in blocks and will be offered seats in order of merit. Candidates reporting in excess of the number of available vacancies on the date of reporting will be advised to report every day, thereafter, at 0900 hr for any vacancy arising till the completion of the admission process.
Any vacancy arising till the closure of the admission process will be filled up the subsequent day. Hence, candidates are advised to stay in Pune till all the vacancies are filled up (115 boys and 30 girls). Those on the waiting list should keep certificates and fees ready and be ready to move at short notice on receipt of intimation by telephone, letter, or e-mail.
Candidates must preserve the NEET UG–2023 admit card till the admission to AFMC is over. Admit card, along with NEET UG–2023 Roll number, will be required during the interview and final admission to college.
Medical Examination - All candidates will be subjected to medical examination as per the requirement of the Armed Forces and as per the laid down standards. The details of the same are given in Paragraphs 46 to 49. The candidates who have been declared medically unfit by the Medical Board of AFMC will not figure in the final merit list for admission.
Completion of MBBS - On successful completion of the MBBS Course from AFMC, the medical cadets join the Armed Forces Medical Services as Commissioned Officers in one of the three services, viz. Army, Navy, and Air Force. On the basis of merit-cum-choice 50% of the medical cadets are offered Permanent Commission (PC) and the rest Short Service Commission (SSC). Promotions to the next higher ranks exist in the Cadre subject to satisfactory service and fitness for the rank.
