AIIMS Raipur doctor commits suicide at his resident, suicide note cites extreme workload

Amritsar: In a tragic incident, a first-year MBBS student was found dead in his hostel room at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, located in Vallah, near Amritsar.

According to police officials, the student, Atinderpal Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur, arrived in Amritsar on Sunday morning. The tragedy came to light when his family, concerned by his prolonged silence, failed to contact him despite repeated calls. Alarmed, the family reached out to one of his friends and asked to check on him. Following this, when his friend reached his room, he discovered his friend hanging inside the room.

The exact cause behind this extreme step remains unknown. Amanjot Kaur, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Vallah police station, confirmed the incident. Speaking to Tribune India, she mentioned that the police have started inquest proceedings in the case and sent the body for a postmortem.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that Just two months away from completing his medical degree course, a 26-year-old final year MBBS medico of MJN Medical College and Hospital in Cooch Behar allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan in his hostel room. While the preliminary investigation by police indicated that the trainee doctor died by suicide as he was struggling emotionally over relationship issues, his father and brother vehemently refuted these claims, alleging foul play. They alleged that he faced mental harassment both at the hospital and the hostel. His brother further raised suspicion, stating that when the body was discovered hanging, his brother's feet were still touching the ground. Demanding a proper and fair investigation into his son's death, the father claimed that his son was murdered, asserting that he was strong-willed and would never have taken such an extreme step.
