3rd year MBBS student of Kerala medical college found dead outside hostel, suicide suspected
Kozhikode: A third year MBBS student of Malabar Medical College, Modakkallur was found dead outside the college hostel on Friday morning.
The 20 year old student, a resident of Thenhippalam near Calicut university, was seen lying on the ground.
As per a media report in the Asianet News, the body of the medico was found around 7 PM, and his left arm was amputated. It is suspected that the student fell from the hostel building. However, it is unsure if the incident was an accident or suicide.
According to preliminary investigation, the medico had jumped from the third floor in suicide attempt, reports the UNI. Further, fellow students said that he was visibly disturbed and was on the phone till late Thursday night.
Speaking to the New Indian Express, the Ulliyeri Police stated that he jumped from the terrace of the hostel building complex which is located near the MMC Hospital. The parents of the medico reached the campus after the incident.
The police have filed a case and begun the investigation on the incident. Nadapuram ASP stated that they found nothing unusual in the death yet. The scientific examination is ongoing, and more statements need to be recorded.
The hostel room was inspected, students were questioned, and the body would be taken for postmortem after the inquest proceedings. The student had arrived at the college a day before from home. His classmates had informed the police that he was suffering from mental stress.
