Complaints across Rajasthan medical colleges- DME orders strict implementation of anti-ragging rules

Jaipur: In light of multiple complaints of ragging from medical colleges across Rajasthan, the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Rajasthan, has directed all government and private medical colleges to strictly implement anti-ragging regulations and ensure a zero-tolerance policy.
In an official communication on October 27, 2026, the Commissioner of the Directorate of Medical Education instructed principals and controllers of all government and RajMES medical colleges, principals of private medical colleges, and deans of ESIC Medical Colleges in Alwar and Jaipur to take effective measures to prevent ragging on their campuses.
The directive follows a letter submitted by the United Doctors Front (UDF) on October 19, 2028. The department noted that it had been continuously receiving complaints related to ragging from medical institutions, describing the matter as serious and concerning.
Medical Dialogues had reported that UDF sought the intervention of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma following seven ragging complaints reported across seven medical colleges in the state between October 10 and 18, 2026. It urged the state government to ensure independent investigations into the ragging complaints and fix accountability of the Deans and Principals wherever lapses are established.
The institutions concerned are Government Medical College, Kota; Dr. S. N. Medical College, Jodhpur; Bhilwara Medical College; Government Medical College, Chittorgarh; Sardar Patel Medical College, Bikaner; ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Jaipur; and Pandit Naval Kishore Sharma Medical College, Dausa.
Following this, DME instructed all medical colleges to ensure strict compliance with the applicable rules, regulations and guidelines issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and other relevant regulatory authorities to prevent ragging in institutions.
For this purpose, it has also directed institutions to keep their Anti-Ragging Committees and Anti-Ragging Squads fully active and regularly review their functioning.
"Effective arrangements must also be ensured for the prevention and monitoring of ragging. Any complaint or incident related to ragging must be taken seriously, and necessary action must be taken immediately in accordance with the applicable rules. Further, regular monitoring must be undertaken regarding the disposal of complaints, compliance status and action taken. Institutions must firmly ensure the implementation of a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging," DME said in the communication.
