Final year PG medical student hangs self in hostel room in Trichy

Trichy: In an unfortunate incident, a 29-year-old final-year PG student of K A P Viswanatham Government Medical College in Trichy committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his hostel room at the hospital complex on Tuesday.

A suicide case has been registered by the police and investigation is on to determine the reason behind taking this extreme step.

The incident took place at evening when the student refused to show up at the hospital for duty which worried his friends since he also did not show up at the hospital canteen for breakfast on Monday. When his friends went to check up on him, they found the door was locked from inside.

After couple failed attempt to get a response from him, the group of friends broke the door and saw his body hanging from the ceiling. His friends immediately rushed him to the hospital but doctors declared him brought dead.

After the hostel authorities informed the government hospital police, an investigation was conducted upon their arrival. No suicide note was found at the scene. Later, the police recovered the body and sent it to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital for post-mortem.

As per a media report in TOI, the deceased was a native of native of RC Chettipettai near Omalur in Salem district who was doing masters in surgery at the college. It came as a shock for his family and friends as to why he took his life when he had only two months to complete his studies.

When asked about stress regarding family issue, his parents said that as far as they were aware, they did not have any such issues or could recall any that could led him to commit suicide in the first place.
