Gujarat- A new medical college will soon be established at the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital in Naroda-Bapunagar, Gujarat. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has also approved the opening of the Medical College.
Recently, the Gujarat government issued an Essentiality Certificate (EC) to the 420-bed hospital, allowing it to open a college. With this, Gujarat will get its 41st medical college in ESIC with 100 MBBS seats for the academic year 2025-26.
On this, according to the Ahmedabad Mirror report, ESIC Hospital submitted a proposal to NMC, which has now given the green signal to it. Along with this, Mansukh L. Mandaviya, the Union Ministry of Labor and Employment has also approved the establishment of the necessary infrastructure and appointment of staff for the medical college.
Apart from Naroda-Bapunagar in Gujarat, ESIC had also given in-principle approval for setting up of 10 new ESIC Medical Colleges in 8 states of India in October last year. These 8 states include Maharashtra, Delhi, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. The decision was announced by the Union Labour and Employment Minister concerning the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech last year to create 75,000 new medical seats in the next five years.
Currently, there are 40 medical colleges in Gujarat, with a total of 7,150 MBBS seats. However, with the addition of this new medical college in ESIC, the state will now have a total of 41 colleges, with a total of 7,250 seats.
Recently, Rajasthan Hospital has also received an Essentiality certificate to establish a medical college from the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Government of Gujarat. On this, Medical Dialogues has reported that to improve medical services and education in Gujarat a new medical college will soon be established.
