JIPMER Issues Memo on Internship Time Distribution For Final Year MBBS Students, details
Puducherry: Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) through a written notice, has issued memorandum related to internship-time distribution for MBBS final year students.
As per the notice, the result of the MBBS final year (Part-II) examination was declared on 7th July 2022. The final year students will have to complete a period of 12 months of compulsory paid internship. The internship has to be carried out from 13th July 2022 till 12th July 2023. The batch list and time distribution against each batch are indicated in Annexure-I & Annexure-II, respectively. Both the annexure are enclosed below.
Interns will receive a stipend of Rs. 26300 per month for a period of 12 months, effective from the date of commencement of their internship. Their date of joining the specified department will be considered as the commencement of internship for the purpose of a stipend. No late joining is allowed. Request for change of posting/batch will not be allowed. The stipend will be released only on receipt of attendance from the departments completed.
Paid accommodation will be provided to the outstation students for the period of internship indicated in Annexure-II. A certificate of completion of the internship will not be issued to those who fail to vacate the accommodation allotted to them. Certificate of completion will also be not issued to interns who fail to attend all three training sessions of Basic Life Support.
Interns are required to opt for their elective posting from any one of the following departments (1x30 days) or any two of the following departments (2x15 days) and to submit the elective option in the academic section on the day of joining of internship –

3. Paediatric Surgery
4. Orthopaedics
5. Microbiology
6. Nuclear Medicine
7. Radiodiagnosis
8. Surgical Oncology
9. Pathology
10. EMS
11. Physiology
12. Anaesthesiology
13. Biochemistry
14. Neonatology
15. PMRC
16. Pharmacology
17. Ophthalmology
18. Plastic Surgery
19. Clinical Immunology
20. Neuro Surgery
21. Forensic Medicine
22. Transfusion Medicine
23. Medical Oncology
24. Paediatrics
25. Medicine
26. Radiation Oncology
JIPMER notifies that evaluation of the internship as indicated in the intern's diary is mandatory. They should maintain a diary as per the requirement. Students must obtain a pre-printed diary from the academic section on the first day of reporting for the internship. Only on submission of diary duly certified by all HODs at the end of the internship will necessary certificates be issued. The Head of the Department concerned should attest to any correction made in the diary.
Any loss of this diary should be reported. A duplicate diary will be issued only on payment of Rs.200, provided a photocopy of the pages corresponding to postings already attended are produced.

Leave details as specified by JIPMER –
1. Intervening public holidays and Sundays will be counted towards the leave period of 30 days.
2. Students are not eligible for on-duty leave for any activities like Quiz, Sports, etc.
3. No leave is permissible during the internship period 13th July 2022 – 12th July 2023 to attend any clinical clerkship experience abroad.
4. No leave is permitted on the dates of BNLS/BPLS/BCS/BTLS training sessions.
5. Medical leave is permitted on submission of a medical certificate from a faculty member of JIPMER, and the leave period has to be compensated by way of extension.
6. Leave can be availed only on prior permission.
7. Leave in excess of eligible duration per posting will be granted only for medical or other emergencies.
8. Unauthorized leave will be viewed seriously and does not automatically qualify for the extension.
9. Interns availing excess leave in any department shall be required to put in an additional period of posting without stipend equal to the period of excess leave.
10. After any unauthorized absence or leave for more than 15 days, the intern can join only after meeting the undersigned.
Instruction to the departments -
1. Departments are requested to send the details of excess leave availed by interns in the prescribed format to the JIPMER office when each batch of interns has completed their posting in the concerned departments. The format is enclosed in the notice below.
2. If no intern is availed excess leave during their posting in the particular department, "Nil report" has to send to this office.
3. In both cases, the attendance report has to reach the academic section within 3 working days of their completion of posting in the concerned departments.
