JIPMER notifies on Internship Time Distribution for MBBS medicos, know Stipend, time Schedule, Elective Postings details
Puducherry- Following the declaration of the results of the MBBS final year (Part II) examination, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry has issued a memorandum regarding the orders on “Internship-Time Distribution”.
According to the memorandum, graduates must undergo a mandatory 12-month paid internship starting from February 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025. Throughout the internship, participants will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 26,300 for the entire 12-month period. The beginning of the stipend period is determined by the date of joining the designated department, and joining late is strictly prohibited under any circumstances.
The memorandum is also followed by Annexure-I and Annexure-II, which provide a Batch List and Time Distribution for each batch, respectively. Annexure I comprises the registration numbers, names, and batches of 110 students. These students are distributed among 6 groups, with each group consisting of 22 students, except for one group. On the other hand, Annexure II shows the schedule of each batch and each department.
During the internship period, outstation students will receive paid accommodation based on the hostel fee structure mentioned in the Hostel Manual. Outstation students need to vacate the accommodation allotted to them or else a certificate of completion of the internship will not be issued. Additionally, all hostel dues must be paid, otherwise, an internship completion certificate will not be issued to those who have dues. Furthermore, if the interns fail to attend all three Basic Life Support training sessions, will also not be issued a certificate of completion of the internship.
Elective posting (2X15 days or 1x30days):
Interns have to opt for their alternative posting from any one of the following departments (1x30 days) or any two of the following departments (2x15 days) and submit the alternative options in the Academic Section on the day of joining the internship.

Further, the memorandum stated that “Evaluation of the Internship as indicated in the Intern's Diary is mandatory. They should maintain a Diary as per the requirement. Students are required to obtain a pre-printed diary from the Academic section on the first day of reporting for the Internship. Only on submission of a diary duly certified by all HODs at the end of the Internship, necessary certificates will be issued. The Head of the Department concerned should attest to any correction made in the diary. Any loss of this Diary should be reported and a duplicate diary will be issued only on payment of Rs.200, provided a photocopy of the pages corresponding to postings already attended are produced”.
Details of Leave that can be availed during the Internship without loss of stipend or Extension are mentioned below:

It should be noted that if an intern is posted in two elective depts., they are allowed a maximum of 3 days leave in each elective dept.
"The MBBS Interns will be allowed a maximum of 3 days, 5 days, and 7 days leave in their posting duration of 15 days, 30 days, and 45 days in the respective departments subject to a maximum of 30 days permissible leave in the one year. If the total leaves availed by the intern exceeds 30 days in one year, the internship will be extended by a period equal to the number of leaves taken over the 30 days permissible leaves. The duration of 30 days of permissible leave will also include any medical leave taken by the Intern. The duration of the extension will be decided by the Dean's office based on the duration of excess leave availed in the particular department and the decision will be final", stated in momerandum.
"Intervening Public Holidays and Sundays will be counted towards the leave period of 30 days. They are not eligible for on-duty leave for any activities like Quiz and Sports, etc. No leave is permissible during the Internship period of 06-07-2023 to 05-07-2024 to attend any Clinical Clerkship experience abroad. No leave is permitted on the dates of BNLS/BPLS/BCS/BTLS Training Sessions".
"Departments are requested to submit the attendance details of the interns in the following format to this office when each Batch of Interns (Al, A2, etc.) have completed their posting in the respective departments. Attendance report has to reach the Academic Section within 5 working days of their completion of posting in the departments. Stipend will be released only on receipt of attendance from the departments completed and the internship diary will be verified after every posting".
"Leave can be availed only with prior permission. Medical leave is permitted on submission of a medical certificate from a faculty member of JIPMER. Leave in excess of eligible duration per posting will be granted only for medical or other emergency purposes and that leave period has to be compensated by way of extension. Unauthorized leave will be viewed seriously and does not automatically qualify for the extension".
"Interns availing excess leave in any department shall be required to put in an additional period of posting without a stipend equal to the period of excess leave. After any unauthorised absence or leave for more than 15 days, the intern can join only after meeting the undersigned".

The Interns Orientation Programme is scheduled to be held from 01.02.2024 to 03.02.2024 (2% days) in the Department of Medical Education, 4th floor, JIPMER Academic Center.
