Rama Medical College 1st year B Pharma student hangs self in hostel room, depression suspected

Pharma student suicide
Kanpur: Possibly depressed over failing all subjects in a recent semester examination, a 19-year-old first year B Pharma student of Rama Medical College and Hospital, Bithoor allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling in his hostel room.
According to his classmates, the results of the B Pharma first-year semester examinations were announced a few days ago, in which he had failed all subjects. This is reported to have left him struggling with depression and is suspected to be the reason behind his death, as per Amar Ujala report.
However, the police have not yet confirmed the reason behind the student taking the extreme step. To determine the exact cause, the police have launched an investigation into the case and are awaiting on the post-mortem report.

The incident took place on Wednesday when his roommate went on a vacation. As per ETV Bharat news report, the student who hailed from Ramnagar Hargaon in Sitapur district shared the room with another student. But since his roommate was on holiday, the student took this opportunity and ended his life.
The Vocal news reports that the matter came to light when the student's friends went to his room and noticed that the door was locked from inside. Worried, they called him multiple times but the student did not respond. After receiving no response, his friends alerted the hostel and college administration. Soon after, the college administration informed the police who reached the spot with forensic team.
Police station in-charge Jitendra Singh told Amar Ujala, "With the help of the forensic team, the door of the room was broken and the body was brought down.
Following this, the police informed the student's family members about the incident, conducted preliminary investigation and gathered evidence from the scene. It is reported that the student communicated via video call with his family two days before allegedly committing suicide.
ACP, Kalyanpur Abhishek Pandey said,"His body has been sent for postmortem and the exact cause of death can be ascertained only after the report is received." A case has been registered under relevant sections of BNS by the police in this regard.
