NMC seat matrix 2026-27 lists 3,343 MD Pathology seats in India

New Delhi: 3,343 seats in MD Pathology seats are available across medical colleges in India for the academic year 2026-27, according to the latest postgraduate medical seat matrix released by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
As per the list, the highest number of MD Pathology seats is 450 in Karnataka among all states and Union Territories, followed by Maharashtra with 408 seats and Uttar Pradesh with 368 seats.
Medical Dialogues earlier reported that the NMC released a seat matrix on September 29 showing a total of 63,177 MD, MS, Diploma, DM and MCh medical seats for the academic year 2026-27. However, the NMC clarified that the latest seat matrix does not include seats related to applications received for an increase in the intake of existing PG courses or for the commencement of new PG courses for the academic year 2026-27.
As per the state-wise distribution of MD Pathology seats for the academic year 2026-27, Gujarat has 288 seats, Tamil Nadu, has 235 seats, Rajasthan has 202 seats, Madhya Pradesh has 188 seats, Telangana has 178 seats, Andhra Pradesh has 160 seats, West Bengal has 106 seats, Kerala has 96 seats, Bihar has 99, Delhi has 84, Haryana has 74, and Odisha has 60 seats.
Assam and Punjab have 56 seats each, while Chhattisgarh has 44 seats and Uttarakhand has 42 seats. Jammu and Kashmir has 41 seats, while Puducherry has 35 seats, Jharkhand has 22 seats, Manipur has 16, Himachal Pradesh has 14, and Chandigarh has 6 seats. Tripura has 5 seats, while Dadra and Nagar Haveli has 4 seats. Goa and Meghalaya have 3 MD Pathology seats each.
Further, the seat matrix shows that no MD Pathology seats were added in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Sikkim this year.
