3rd year MD Gynaecology medico of Gandhi Medical college takes anesthesia overdose, commits suicide
Bhopal: In an unfortunate incident, a 27-year-old junior doctor pursuing her post-graduation (third year) in gynaecology from Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal allegedly committed suicide by injecting herself with anaesthesia at her apartment, police said on Monday.
The female doctor, who was pursuing post-graduation in gynaecology, was found unconscious by her husband in their rented apartment in the early hours of the day, Koh-e-Fiza police station in-charge Vijay Singh Sisodia said.
The doctor lived with her husband and was pregnant at the time of the incident, he said.
The husband has said that the woman went to bed around midnight and he found her unconscious around 6.30 am and rushed her to the hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival, Sisodia said.
Two empty vials of anaesthesia were found near her bed, he said, adding that no suicide note was recovered from the spot and the cause for the extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
The doctor was a native of Andhra Pradesh and her parents stay in Bengaluru, the official said.
She had done her under-graduation from Hyderabad and was pursuing her third year from the GMC, reports IANS.
It came to light that the doctor took the extreme step due to stress from being unable to complete her PG course on time. Talking about this, to FPJ, Investigating Officer Adriyana said, "When we were informed of the suicide by the Hamidia hospital staff, we reached there and assumed custody of the body."
"We launched investigations into the case and learnt that she was in immense distress due to the extension of the course, while other of her batch-mates had already completed their PG course," Adriyana added.
The doctor's co-workers, requesting anonymity said, "She was also distressed, as the HOD of the gynaecology department was not accepting her thesis, which compelled her to end her life."
The police have sent her body for post-mortem which will take place today.
