AP to recruit 238 doctors to strengthen secondary healthcare

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has approved the recruitment of 238 doctors to strengthen secondary healthcare services across government hospitals in the state. The move is aimed at filling vacancies in Community Health Centres (CHCs), area hospitals, and district hospitals.

According to the news reports, the Health Minister gave his approval after a review meeting with Secondary Health Director Chakradhar Babu. Under the recruitment plan, 148 posts of Civil Assistant Surgeons (specialists) and 90 posts of Civil Assistant Surgeons (general) will be filled on a one-year contract basis. Specialists with postgraduate qualifications will receive a monthly salary of Rs 1.10 lakh, while MBBS doctors will be paid Rs 61,960 per month.

The highest number of appointments has been allotted to Nellore, Sri Sathya Sai, and Anantapur districts, with 13 doctors each. Polavaram, Konaseema and Eluru will receive 11 doctors each, while Parvathipuram Manyam, Krishna, NTR, Bapatla and Tirupati districts have been allotted 10 doctors each. Other allocations include nine doctors each for East Godavari, Prakasam, Markapuram and Kurnool districts; eight each for Alluri Sitarama Raju, Chittoor and Annamayya; and seven each for Anakapalli, West Godavari, Palnadu and Nandyal districts, reports TOI.

Srikakulam, Kakinada, and Kadapa districts have been allotted six doctors each, while Vizianagaram will receive five, Guntur four, and Visakhapatnam one doctor.

To speed up the process, the government will carry out recruitment through District Selection Committees (DSCs) under district collectors. This decentralised approach is expected to improve local participation and encourage doctors to serve in their native or nearby districts, thereby improving retention.

The minister has instructed officials to complete the recruitment process within a month so that vacant posts in government hospitals can be filled without delay.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that to fulfil the coalition government's promise of clearing pending dues, Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced that Rs 919.13 crore has been released to hospitals empanelled under the NTR Vaidya Seva Trust through a "tri-partite bill discounting" mechanism.
