Bharatpur Govt doctor lifts 442 kg at World Powerlifting Championship
Jaipur: Dr Deepak Singh, Head of Department of the TB ward at Raj Bahadur Memorial (RBM) Government Hospital in Bharatpur, has achieved a significant sporting feat by lifting a combined 442 kg in powerlifting, setting a record in his age category at 50.
Dr. Singh represented India in the 120-kg division at the World Power Lifting Tournament held in Sri Lanka in November, where he secured gold medals in all three segments—bench press (122 kg), squat (150 kg), and deadlift (170 kg). Despite managing family duties, government service and patient care throughout the day, he has continued to pursue competitive sports, earning multiple honours at district, state and national events.
This year alone, he has won 12 medals, including nine gold, two silver, and one bronze across national, Asian, and global championships. Last year, he secured nine medals — six in powerlifting and three in arm wrestling. His long list of achievements includes titles such as National Powerlifting Champion (Medinapur, West Bengal, 2020), gold medallist at the National Arm Wrestling Championship (Raipur, 2024), and national powerlifting gold winner in Ujjain (2024). He has also earned top honours from the Rajasthan Arm Wrestling Association and a silver at the World Powerlifting Federation.
Dr. Singh’s professional and sporting history is extensive. He has previously been a bronze medalist at the National Powerlifting Championship (New Delhi, 2019), a gold winner at the Rajasthan Powerlifting Championship (2019), and an active member of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine. Internationally, he has won the World Chest Challenge (2014) at the American College of Chest Physicians, along with the India Chest Challenges of 2013 and 2012. His earlier accolades include the Young Scientist Award at Rajpulmocon 2012 and multiple postgraduate quiz titles at NAPCON.
He has held several posts, such as Chairman of the STF under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) in Rajasthan, professor at Government Medical College, Bharatpur, past president of GKAP Bharatpur, and former president of RMCTA Bharatpur. Dr. Singh has also worked at institutions including Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi, the District TB Centre in Bharatpur, Dr. S.N. Medical College, Jodhpur, and the National Institute of Health & Family Welfare in New Delhi.
A resident of Bharatpur, he studied at RNT Medical College, Udaipur (1995–2000) and Dr. Sampurnanand Medical College, Jodhpur, and previously attended St. Peter’s Senior Secondary School and Multipurpose Senior Secondary School in Bharatpur. His distinguished profile includes the ACCP World Chest Challenge title (2014) and gold at the WPF Powerlifting Championships (2020), reflecting his dual excellence as a clinician and a powerlifting champion.
The doctor shared in his social media post that his success is the result of local food. He is totally vegan and considers desi ghee and milk as the basis of his fitness. Dr. Deepak Singh explains that his dream was to go to the army, but he got selected to Udaipur Medical College in 1995. The first tournament held in Bharatpur in 2019 started their sports career, and then won several medals at national and international levels. After a 4-year break, he returned to the international stage by winning National Gold in 2024.
