Bhavnagar ENT surgeon allegedly dies by suicide after drug overdose

Bhavnagar: In a tragic incident, a 53-year-old Bhavnagar-based renowned ENT surgeon allegedly committed suicide after reportedly overdosing on three different injections, including blood thinners and sedatives, at his clinic.
According to news reports, the doctor had been in distress over his second wife’s deteriorating mental condition. Moments before taking the extreme step, he called his brother, expressing suicidal thoughts.
While the preliminary investigation suggests suicide from mental distress, police have initiated a detailed probe to ascertain if there was any other trigger.
The medical fraternity has lost an excellent and experienced doctor who was highly respected for his strong academic background and was considered a master in performing complex surgeries. His sudden and unfortunate demise has left colleagues and family deeply shocked.

As per a TOI media report, the doctor remarried in 2019 after his first wife died. However, he was struggling with life due to his second wife's poor mental condition, as stated by his brother.
The incident took place around 10 pm on Monday, after the doctor called his elder brother for the last time. During the conversation, the doctor told him that he was very distressed over his wife's deteriorating mental condition. His brother got alarmed when Dr Ranglani mentioned that he was having suicidal thoughts. The brother asked him where he was, but the call got disconnected.
In fear, he and other family members then rushed to his clinic around 10:30 pm. Upon arrival, they found the premises locked from the inside. With the help of other people, they managed to enter through a window and found him lying unconscious in the office. Even though they tried to revive him, the efforts failed, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sub-inspector K C Revar of Neelam Bagh police station told TOI, "We learnt that he had overdosed on injections given as blood thinners and sedation. We collected the viscera samples and sent them for further analysis to ascertain the exact cause of death."
He is survived by his two children, a daughter studying in Mumbai and a son who is involved in business, both from his first wife. The police have filed an accidental death report under section 194 of the BNS.
Grieving for his loss, Dr. Mansukh Kanani, a toxicologist in Bhavnagar and former president of Gujarat Chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA), said, "Dr. *** was a popular, renowned ENT specialist with strong academic credentials. Considered a master of complex surgeries, he used to deliver expert lectures at medical conferences. He enjoyed immense popularity among his patients. He was a cheerful person."
