Clash? Doon Medical College HoD Oncology, Junior Doctor accuse each other of assault, Probe on
Dehradun: Govt Doon Medical College and Hospital is facing a controversy after the HoD of the Oncology Department and a junior doctor accused each other of assault.
This resulted in the disruption of the outpatient operations at the Oncology Department of the Medical College on Saturday. Consequently, a probe was ordered into the incident, TOI has reported.
Apart from the allegations of assault, both doctors also accused each other of interfering with patient care. Meanwhile, sources at the hospital claimed that these two doctors have also clashed in the past.
As per the latest media report by the Times of India, the head of the oncology department, Dr. Daulat Singh claimed that the junior doctor misbehaved with him and accused him (Dr. Singh) of manhandling and misbehaving with him (the junior doctor) instead. Explaining what happened on Saturday, he told the Daily, "I have a medical examination duty at a second centre on Monday, for which the information was duly shared with hospital superiors. There is a protocol of sharing the details with the juniors in the department as well to coordinate for the absence. The letter for the same was sent to the junior doctor on Friday, but when there was no acknowledgement even after multiple reminders on Saturday, I went down to see him in person. That's when he misbehaved with me. He later followed me to my floor and kept accusing me of manhandling him and misbehaving with him."
On the other hand, the junior doctor, Dr. Shashank Jodhi alleged that it was Dr. Singh who assaulted him. However, this claim has been denied by the HOD.
Claiming that these two doctors have clashed in the past as well, a source at the hospital told TOI, "There are already misconduct inquiries against Joshi for not following protocols and showing up late on several occasions. These were regularly flagged by the HOD. This has created tension between them."
Speaking to TOI, the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr. Anurag Agarwal confirmed that an inquiry has been ordered into the matter. He added, "There were issues in the past as well, and it is now being investigated, following which due action will be taken against any erring person."
Meanwhile, officials informed the Daily that both the doctors are currently continuing with their routine duties.
