Fake MBBS Degree Racket: NHM IT assistant arrested in Bhopal

Damoh: In the ongoing probe into the recent fake MBBS degree racket uncovered in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district, police have arrested an IT assistant associated with the National Health Mission (NHM) office in Bhopal, taking the total number of accused in the case to five.

According to reports, police investigations revealed the alleged involvement of the IT assistant in facilitating appointment-related processes and uploading orders on the NHM portal. Officials suspect he helped the accused navigate government systems using fake documents.

During his medical examination at the district hospital, the fifth accused pleaded not guilty to the media. He said, "My job is simply to upload vacancies and orders to the NHM website. Someone named me, and the police arrested me. I don't know any of these four. There's no interview process at the NHM. I have no role in this fake degree case," reports Lalluram.

The investigation began after police received information about individuals allegedly practising medicine and working at government health facilities and Sanjivani Hospital in Damoh using fake documents and forged MBBS degrees.

Earlier, police arrested two alleged fake doctors who were reportedly employed using forged medical degrees. During interrogation, police uncovered more links in the racket, leading to the arrest of a third accused doctor from Sanjivani Hospital in Jabalpur.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that a shocking case of medical fraud had come to light in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh, where police had apprehended three men for allegedly posing as doctors at "Sanjeevani Clinics" operating under the National Health Mission (NHM), officials said.

Based on inputs gathered during the investigation, police later arrested a radiologist from Bhopal, who is alleged to have prepared fake medical degrees and forged documents used in the fraud.

Police brought both the radiologist and the IT assistant to the district hospital for medical examinations before producing them in court. The court granted the police a two-day remand of both accused for further interrogation and investigation.

Investigators believe that the remand period may help uncover the involvement of more influential individuals linked to the fake degree racket
