Fraud : Doctor cheated of Rs. 2.76 lakh through online trading platform

Pune: An FIR was registered by the Bharati Vidyapeeth police on Monday in a fraud case where a 24 year old doctor was cheated of Rs 2.76 lakh by fraudsters on December 3, 2021 on the pretext of selling a used air conditioner and bed through an online trading platform.

The doctor had filed a complaint, following which the cyber police verified the complaint, and the police registered a formal FIR after that, as per a media report in the Times of India.

A senior inspector Jagannath Kalaskar of the Bharati Vidyapeeth police told TOI, "The preliminary verification has revealed that the fraudsters are based in Rajasthan and we are trying to get their exact location."

The doctor is associated with a hospital in Katraj, and he came across an advertisement on a website where old goods are traded by the people, as he wanted to purchase an air conditioner and a bed. He saw an advertisement which showed household furniture on sale, following which he contacted the number mentioned in it.

The police stated that the person who received the call asked a few questions to the doctor, to which the doctor agreed. Following that, the person sent a QR code to the doctor on his UPI application and asked the latter to scan the QR code.

Katraj is the suburb in Pune in the Indian state of Maharashtra, and within the jurisdiction of Pune Municipal Corporation. it is famous for its Peshwa-era (18th century) lake that supplied water to the city during that period. The former rural area is now surrounded by residential complexes.
