Kannauj Govt Hospital doctor suspended for allegedly demanding Rs 5,000 to administer anaesthesia

Bribe
Kanpur: A government hospital doctor in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj district has been suspended for allegedly demanding Rs 5,000 from the family of a pregnant woman to administer anaesthesia during childbirth and sending her back without the injection after they failed to pay.
According to the news reports, the doctor was posted at Kannauj District Hospital, where the woman had approached for delivery. The doctor allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 from her husband for administering anaesthesia.

When the family could not arrange the money, the doctor allegedly sent the woman back without providing the required injection, raising serious concerns over alleged corruption at the government-run facility.
The woman's family subsequently took her to Rajkiya Medical College, where she underwent surgery and safely delivered her baby.
The woman's husband later lodged a complaint with Uttar Pradesh Social Welfare Minister Aseem Arun, who brought the matter to the attention of the Deputy Chief Minister. Following the complaint, the state government suspended the doctor.
Speaking to TOI, Arun said corruption and negligence towards patients would not be tolerated under the Yogi Adityanath govt. He said govt hospitals were responsible for providing quality healthcare services and that strict action would be taken against anyone found negligent or involved in corrupt practices.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a medicine specialist at a government hospital in Delhi and a contractual employee for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in exchange for favouring a complainant in tender-related matters, officials said on Wednesday. The doctor, who was also the nodal officer for outsourcing in the hospital's medicine department, reportedly sought the bribe to ensure that an awarded tender was not cancelled, bills were cleared on time, and red flags were not raised in the complainant's file.
