Kochi doctor assaulted, robbed of Rs 3.25 lakh; 2 film actors arrested

Kochi: A 41-year-old doctor was allegedly assaulted and robbed of valuables worth Rs 3.25 lakh after being lured to an apartment in Kochi on the pretext of providing emergency medical assistance. Kadavanthra Police have arrested two film actors in connection with the incident.
According to the FIR registered based on the doctor's complaint, around 12 people were allegedly involved in the attack. The incident reportedly took place between 6.30 pm and 10.30 pm on Monday at an apartment complex in Ponnurunni, Vyttila, Kochi.
In his complaint, the doctor alleged that one of the actors contacted him and asked him to go to a third-floor flat in an apartment complex in Ponnurunni, Vyttila. He was told that the aunt of one of the actors was seriously ill and required urgent medical attention, reports TOI.
Believing that a patient needed emergency medical assistance, the doctor reportedly went to the apartment. However, upon reaching the location, he was allegedly confronted by a group of individuals.
The doctor alleged that the group accused him of administering narcotic substances to the actor's aunt and sexually assaulting her.
Following the accusations, the group allegedly attacked the doctor and threatened him with further violence. According to the FIR, the first accused punched him on his left ear and struck him with a chair. The other accused allegedly restrained and assaulted him while verbally abusing him. They are also accused of acting together and assisting one another during the attack.
The group allegedly robbed the doctor of two mobile phones and a smartwatch, collectively valued at approximately Rs 3.25 lakh. The stolen valuables are yet to be recovered.
The doctor sustained minor injuries in the assault, police said.
Police launched efforts to trace the accused on Wednesday night and arrested three people from different locations. Preliminary investigation suggests that one of the accused was acquainted with the doctor and that the crime was allegedly carried out using this connection.
Though the FIR mentions the involvement of 12 persons, the police said they were yet to establish the exact number of people involved. The remaining suspects are reportedly absconding after learning about the arrests, reports TNIE.
