Kurukshetra Gynaecologist 2023 murder case: 5 accused sentenced to death

Kurukshetra: A fast-track special district court in Kurukshetra has sentenced five people to death in the brutal murder of a senior gynaecologist, who was killed during a robbery at her home in 2023.

The additional district and sessions judge awarded the death penalty to the former maid of the deceased doctor, along with four other accused. Two other accused were acquitted due to a lack of evidence.

The court clarified in its jail warrant that the death sentence will not be carried out unless it is confirmed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, as required under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), reports Free Press Journal.

The case is related to the attack on 60-year-old Dr Vineeta Arora, who was killed on January 9, 2023, when robbers broke into her house in Sector 13 of Kurukshetra.

Medical Dialogues in 2023 reported that the horrific incident happened while Dr Atul Arora, a gynaecologist, was still in his clinic. After entering the house, the miscreants cornered the house members, collected jewellery from them and disconnected the phones and the CCTV.

After Dr Atul reached the house, he was also cornered by the miscreants who had guns with them. Demanding to meet his aged parents, Dr Atul entered their room and locked the door from inside. Thereafter, he jumped to the house of the neighbour and somehow reached the street. He called the neighbours and asked for their help.

Unfortunately, by the time Dr Atul could reach home with help, the miscreants had already murdered his wife Dr. Vineeta, who was a Gynaecologist by profession. The police cracked the case after finding that the couple's former maid's role in the crime and subsequently nabbed the remaining persons. Based on this lead, the police arrested the remaining accused and filed charges against them.
