The accused after going inside smashed one of the cameras which were installed within the premises, however, the recorder had already taken his image by then. The image of the thief was later retrieved by the police during investigation.
The CCTV footage was circulated in the official groups by the senior officials from the Beltarodi police station. After that, the crime branch's detection unit one, under sub-inspector Jhadokar, rounded up the Dabhne cousins from their residence at Rana Pratap Nagar, apart from recovering the stolen materials. The accused had however reportedly gone away by then.
The accused has been identified as 23-year-old Sanmet Dabhne alias Pongya, who is directed to stay at Gondia as per his externment order. The image captured in the recorder helped the police in recovering valuables which were worth Rs 9.09 lakhs within 24 hours. The money was reported to have been stored by the doctor for construction-related work.
The crime branch, under additional police commissioner (addl CP) Navinchandra Reddy and DCP (crime) Chinmay Pandit had arrested Sanmet's elder brother Manthan and their cousin Vikas for allegedly retaining the stolen valuables that Sanmet had taken with him. The latter still has some stolen cash with him and is absconding.
The crime branch had recovered around 102gm gold out of 107gm stolen which is worth Rs 5.40 lakh, from the other two, and they retrieved Rs 1.63 lakh stolen cash from the cousins. A special team has been formed to catch Sanmet.
Sanmet was reported to have been caught earlier by the Beltarodi police for stealing 1 KG gold from another doctor's house in the past. He was externed from Nagpur city for his criminal records as a house-breaker, reports the TOI.
According to police sources, Sanmet had been visiting the local police station in Gondia because of the externment order, but they said he might have been visiting Nagpur for burglaries on a regular basis.
