Odisha Gynaecologist arrested for taking Rs 6000 bribe
Bhubaneswar: A senior gynaecologist at a government hospital was arrested by Vigilance sleuths on Monday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a pregnant woman in exchange for pre-natal and post-natal treatment in Kalahandi district headquarters hospital (DHH).
The doctor was identified as a consultant gynaecologist and is in the rank of joint director in the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), a Class-I officer in Kalahandi at Bhawanipatna.

The arrest came after Vigilance officers set a successful trap. According to the officers, they recovered the full bribe amount of Rs 6,000 from the accused doctor.
Following the trap, the sleuths conducted searches at four different properties linked to the senior doctor to determine if he possessed disproportionate assets. The authorities are now investigating whether the doctor has accumulated wealth beyond his income sources.
As per the recent media report by TOI, a vigilance officer stated, "The senior gynecologist demanded money from a pregnant woman. We received a complaint from the woman's relative and accordingly laid a trap to catch the doctor red-handed."
An officer has stated that a case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is ongoing to determine the moveable and immovable assets of the arrested doctor.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a gynaecologist attached to Sagwara Government Hospital in Dungarpur was allegedly abused and slapped by a Bhartiya tribal party MLA. A video went viral where the MLA was seen accusing the doctor of demanding a bribe from a patient for the delivery of a baby. Though the doctor denied such allegations, the tension between the duo grew up after which the legislator allegedly slapped and manhandled the doctor. The MLA had claimed that he was only there to confront the doctor about demanding a bribe and he never slapped him.
