Super-speciality doctors in Himachal to receive non-practising allowance

Shimla: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced that the Himachal Pradesh government will provide non-practising allowance (NPA) to super-speciality doctors to further strengthen healthcare services across the state.
Chairing a review meeting of the health department on Thursday evening, Sukhu said his government was committed to providing quality healthcare services to patients within the state.
“There was no shortage of funds for modernising the health sector,” he said, according to a statement issued on Friday.

The chief minister directed the health department to categorise all community health centres (CHCs) based on population coverage so that staffing and infrastructure could be provided according to actual requirements.
He said the government held several rounds of discussions with doctors regarding healthcare reforms. Non-practising allowance (NPA) would be given to super-speciality doctors to further strengthen healthcare services, Sukhu added, news agency PTI reported.
According to the statement, Sukhu will personally visit various health institutions and interact with doctors to formulate a future roadmap for further improvements in the sector.
He said that in districts without medical colleges, the government is upgrading facilities at zonal and regional hospitals to provide better healthcare services to patients, and recruitments are being undertaken to address shortages of doctors, paramedical staff and technicians.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the Himachal Pradesh High Court has stayed the recruitment of 900 Assistant Staff Nurses (ASNs), observing that the ongoing recruitment process appears to be outside the framework of the existing statutory recruitment rules. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice GS Sandhawalia and Justice Bipin C Negi directed the state government not to issue any further appointment letters and restrained selected candidates from joining their posts until further orders.
