Vasai man arrested for allegedly raping doctor after posing as engineer
Vasai: A man who allegedly posed as an engineer on a matrimonial website and used a false marriage proposal to gain her trust has been arrested by the Waliv police in connection with the reported rape of a 30-year-old doctor.
According to police, the accused contacted the doctor through a matrimonial website in June while allegedly using a false identity and claiming to be an engineer with an annual income of Rs 37 lakh. The doctor reportedly expressed interest in the marriage proposal.
Police alleged that the accused subsequently told the doctor that she would have to meet another man, whom he described as a “playboy”, as a way of assessing sexual compatibility before marriage. He allegedly shared a phone number with her and instructed her to meet the man at a hotel.
According to TOI, the doctor met the person as instructed. She met the man, recorded a video of the sexual act, and sent it to the accused, as instructed.
The accused subsequently allegedly refused to marry her and gave an unusual reason for doing so, claiming that he would die within three months if he married her. The doctor later learnt that the person presented to her as the “playboy” was allegedly the same man who had approached her through the matrimonial website.
She subsequently approached Waliv police, following which a case was registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to rape and cheating, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, TOI reported.
Police traced the accused to his residence in a slum area of Nalasopara and arrested him on Monday, an officer said.
During the investigation, police also found that the accused had allegedly created multiple fake Instagram accounts. Officers are examining these accounts and other digital evidence as part of the investigation.
