2 women develop kidney complications after C-sections at Kota's New Medical College Hospital

Kota: Two women have developed serious kidney-related complications following caesarean deliveries at New Medical College Hospital in Kota, Rajasthan, raising concerns over patient safety. The incidents come months after 12 women reportedly suffered kidney failure following caesarean sections at the same hospital in May this year.
Both women underwent caesarean deliveries on Wednesday, October 14, and reportedly began experiencing problems with urine output within hours of the procedures.

According to reports, one of the patients, a 30-year-old woman, was admitted to the hospital on October 13 and delivered her baby through a caesarean section at around 11 am the following day, according to news reports.
At around 5 am on October 15, she suddenly developed severe breathing difficulties, accompanied by a sharp decline in urine output. Her platelet count subsequently began falling rapidly, prompting doctors to recommend an immediate transfusion of single-donor platelets.
According to her family, they were asked to arrange the required platelets from the blood bank at MBS Hospital because the necessary facility was reportedly unavailable at the medical college hospital due to a faulty machine.
The family had to travel between the two hospitals to arrange the blood component. As her condition worsened, the patient was transferred to the nephrology department at the medical college's super-speciality hospital, where she is undergoing treatment.
The second patient, a 40-year-old woman residing near Minar Masjid, also underwent a caesarean delivery in the hospital's gynaecology department on October 14. As her condition deteriorated, her family took her to a private hospital, where she was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). She was reported to be in critical condition.
Meanwhile, hospital superintendent Dr Ashutosh Sharma said that one woman who had given birth had been shifted to the super-speciality block. He said her urine output had not stopped completely, but there was some difficulty, Bhaskar English reported.
The latest cases have brought renewed attention to a similar incident reported at the hospital on May 5, 2026, when 12 women who had undergone caesarean sections reportedly developed kidney failure. Five women subsequently died, while the remaining seven were discharged after receiving treatment.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that in a fresh case of health complications following Caesarean deliveries in Rajasthan, the health of eight women deteriorated at Paota District Hospital in Jodhpur, prompting a high-level inquiry and raising concerns over healthcare standards.
