Belagavi super-speciality hospital at cost of Rs 140 crore to be completed soon
The four-storeyed building will have the departments of Neurology, Neuro Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Oncology on the first floor and Gastrology, Nephrology, and Surgical Gastrology on the second floor. The VIP rooms and the general room will be on the third floor and all the operation theatres will be on the fourth.
Belagavi: In a review meeting with Regional Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas and other officials, Member of Legislative Assembly Anil Benake has informed that the super-speciality Belagavi district hospital will be completed in a few months at a cost of ₹ 140 crores.
The construction of the hospital work was on hold due to several reasons including the COVID-19 lockdown. However, the work has resumed again and is expected to be completed in 6 months.
The four-storeyed building will have the departments of Neurology, Neuro Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Oncology on the first floor and Gastrology, Nephrology, and Surgical Gastrology on the second floor. The VIP rooms and the general room will be on the third floor and all the operation theatres will be on the fourth.

The hospital will serve patients coming from Goa and Maharashtra as well and also aims at treating patients from poor financial backgrounds. The patients struggling to pay heavy bills at the hospital will no longer need to worry as the district hospital will provide free tertiary services to the patients.
Director of Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences A.B. Patil told The Hindu, "That construction work on a large portion of the building has been nearly completed and the structure will be ready in four to six months. Officers have been directed to complete work on two floors (one and two) in three months and the other floors later."

He said that he will ask the engineer and the contractor to speed up the work. It will strengthen BIMS and help us get additional post-graduate seats in various disciplines.
BIMS civil hospital was opened in 1859 at a cost of Rs.5377 average inbound patient was 25 and OPD were 125. The District Hospital, Belagavi is earlier known as the Civil Hospital is the earliest hospital in the district. This serves the people of the district and also the rural people of the bordering villages of the neighbouring state. The present bed strength of the hospital is around 1000. It has specialised services in medicine, surgery, paediatrics, maternity, gynaecology, ENT, skin diseases, ophthalmology, psychiatry and dentistry.
