Former Punjab Minister Balbir Sidhu opposes relocation of AIIMS Mohali
Mohali: Recently, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Medical Education(AIIMS) Mohali is in the process of relocation. The AAP-led state government's intention to relocate the college has been opposed by former Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu.
Due to the medical college being next to a drain, a relocation plan was made. Considering it as an inappropriate location for the college, Punjab health minister Dr. Vijay Singla had sent a proposal to the chief minister to relocate the medical college.
Sidhu told HT that "AAP's proposal to transfer the college from here is a big betrayal of the people of Mohali and the Congress will strongly oppose any such attempt. We will approach the high court and also hold protests." As a result of his tireless efforts, he also said that classes have also begun at the Medical College in Mohali.
Sidhu has declared complete disagreement with the decision and said that the drainage system could have been covered and that there was no need to shift the college. In spite of his best efforts to provide enough land for the college, he said that the building could have been constructed instead of moving. He also said that the decision to shift to the college won't be tolerated and action will be taken.
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Medical Education (AIMS) is the 4th government-aided medical college in Punjab. It is situated on the outskirts of Mohali in Sector 56. The Institute was announced to establish a medical college attached to the existing district hospital. Recently, the college has applied to the National Medical Commission for permitting an annual intake of 100 medical students to the undergraduate program. AIMS Mohali is an autonomous society under the state government and affiliated with Baba Farid university of health sciences, Faridkot, Punjab.
The Medical College has two interconnected blocks-Academic Block and the Hostel block. The academic block houses the office of the Director Principal, administrative offices, Committee room, and various departments. There are lecture theatres, Skill Labs and Central Library.
