Joginder Nagar Hospital gets Block Community Health Unit to boost epidemic preparedness

Block Community Health Unit
Mandi: To strengthen grassroots disease surveillance and improve public health response, a Block Community Health Unit (BCHU) has been set up at Civil Hospital Joginder Nagar in Mandi district.
Established at a cost of more than Rs 20 lakh, the unit will focus on the collection, compilation and analysis of health-related data from the area. Officials said this data will help study disease trends, assess local health indicators and plan timely interventions. The facility is also expected to support better coordination between field-level health workers and hospital-based services.
Authorities said the BCHU will play an important role in disease prevention, surveillance and rapid delivery of health services. By identifying patterns of communicable and other diseases at an early stage, the unit will help strengthen preparedness and reduce the risk of disease spread in the region, reports Amar Ujala.

The unit has been equipped with modern facilities, including a digital laboratory where testing for various diseases can be conducted.
Under the Block Health Management Information System, the unit will also help evaluate disease burden, monitor health indicators and provide timely information related to treatment and care. Officials said the improved availability of data and diagnostic support will help reduce mortality risks and improve decision-making in public health response.
Work on the BCHU at Civil Hospital, Joginder Nagar, has been underway for the past two years. With the infrastructure now in place, preparations have been completed to make the unit operational in June.
Dr Vikas Nath, Senior Medical Officer at Civil Hospital Joginder Nagar, said the unit would strengthen disease prevention, monitoring and rapid health service delivery in the region. Public health experts and data management staff will be deployed at the facility to ensure systematic surveillance and timely identification of health-related risks.
