STF probe in KGMU religious conversion case points to accused doctor's parents' role

Lucknow: In a fresh development in the alleged religious conversion case at King George's Medical University (KGMU), the Special Task Force (STF) investigation has reportedly pointed to the involvement of the parents of the accused doctor in influencing medical students and arranging meetings with religious preachers.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, has come under scrutiny after a Special Task Force (STF) investigation by the Uttar Pradesh Police reportedly uncovered an alleged organised network involving religious coercion, sexual exploitation, and attempts to force female resident doctors and nursing staff into conversion.

According to the investigation report, the accused doctor allegedly targeted Hindu medical students, persuaded them to discontinue their studies, and subsequently introduced them to his parents. His parents allegedly arranged meetings with religious preachers at a flat in Lucknow's Hussainabad area as part of the alleged conversion activities.
The investigation further alleges that students were discouraged from celebrating Hindu festivals and gradually distanced from their families. They were reportedly encouraged to observe Islamic festivals and learn about Islam through the preachers, reports Free Press Journal.
The investigation report also contains allegations of sexual exploitation involving the accused doctor.
In an incident dating back to 2012, the doctor allegedly invited a female medical student to his flat on the pretext of dance practice. He reportedly offered her alcohol and subsequently sexually exploited her.
The accused allegedly took objectionable photographs and videos of the student, according to the investigation.
In a related development, police have arrested an alleged associate of the doctor.
He is accused of preparing forged documents connected with the alleged marriage and religious conversion of a woman doctor from Agra.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the preparation of the documents and the alleged involvement of other individuals in the matter.
The arrest has added another dimension to the ongoing investigation, which is examining allegations of organised religious conversion, exploitation of medical students, and document forgery.
The latest findings have brought the alleged involvement of the accused doctor's family members under the investigative lens. Further legal proceedings are awaited as the STF continues its investigation into the case.
